Using hyperrealistic techniques, Lee Sukju penetrates and understands the existence of humans. By juxtaposing “A Space for Thinking 2” with the works of Jan Vermeer, a master of hyperrealism from 400 years ago, it encourages us to reconsider the concept of “present time.” Although we yearn to exist in reality more than anyone else, our minds are often trapped in the past or future. The past is captured by memories, and the future is captured by desires, making the present time feel too narrow. What Lee Sukju, the artist, wants to convey through hyperrealism is a heightened consciousness – perceiving the distant past and vast future, while deeply comprehending the fleeting moment of reality with infinite depth.
